Pern dates: Turnover, end of Turn 38
Turnover Festivities at Green Ridge Hold!
TURN'S END
During the morning, Lady Jianna will see petitioners bringing judgments for her to make, settle disputes, or expand current holdings. Also during this time she may officiate at handfastings or weddings for those wishing formal Hold sanction. Morning and nooning meals will not be served except for Hold workers, but plan on a variety of booths selling all sorts of foods. Evening meal will be served to all in the dining hall with overflows moving into the Great Hall.
Runner races will be held throughout the day at the race loop, and for the first time GRH's own racers will be old enough to compete. Various distances will be run; feel free to have your personas win--just don't have them win all *grin*. Prizes for the races will be two mark's credits issued for Hold items.
The monthly market day will be held, perhaps this month larger than those of other months, with booths set up along paths between the Manor and barn as well as near the Race Loop. Except for paper sold through the Harper's booth, the Hold itself will not offer goods for sale other than necessary supplies always available. In addition, there will be a trading ship at the docks bringing traders to bargain for crafts produced by holdfolk and to offer special goods not normally available during market days. Assume there will be booths for all sorts of contests such as knife throwing and archery.
Dancing will be held in the Great Hall after evening meal, with music provided mostly by local holdfolk. Directly after the meal, a chorus of Hold children will present a series of songs in celebration of the Hold's second full turn.
TURN'S BEGINNING
A light meal of breaking fast will be available to those whose Turn's End celebrations were restrained enough to allow them a morning appetite, and then the festivities move to the gather grounds north of the manor. Runner races will be again be held throughout the day at the race loop.
At nooning, herdbeast will be roasted in open pits at the gather grounds and the noon meal will be taken there.
Foot races of various distances will be held after nooning, for children and also adults, starting across the road from the gather grounds. Longer distances stretch southward, the longest going southward past the watchrider's weyr and into the hills. Winners of children's races earn 1/4 mark; adults win a credit of one mark and a packet of paper. Betting will no doubt be lively on foot as well as runner races.
During the afternoon Master Aenggis will judge livestock in the paddocks near the barn, with judging for ovines, herdbeasts and runnerbeasts. Winners of various classes take home sacks of feed appropriate for the species of beast.
Evening meal will be the most elaborate of the feasts, with the main course being roast lamb, and again there will be singing by Hold children and then dancing late into the night.
