| DRAGONRIDERS CRAFT CORNER |
![]()
The Craft Corner is a new section of the Dragonriders web pages dedicated to the Craftspeople of Pern. While we're starting small, we anticipate this set of pages will evolve and expand over time. If you have suggestions for additions, please feel free to contact the Webbies.
Apprenticeships in most crafts last from 5-7 turns. Apprenticeships may be taken at formal crafthalls or under the tutelage of masters or skilled journeypeople at individual locations. Apprentices do not receive any sort of 'salary' and can earn marks only by selling their craft-made products, when time allows them to do so. Rarely do apprentices travel away from their location, and even then only under the supervision of a journeyman or master.
At the end of the period of training, apprentices must pass both an oral and practical proficiency exam; not every apprentice manages to pass both, and some never advance to journey status. If they do pass the exams, they have 'walked the tables' to become Journeymen/women, at which time they may pursue their craft and share their knowledge and skills with apprentices. Mastery may take as long as twenty five turns, and few reach that level in their craft.
When advancing in craft rank from apprentice to Journeyman/woman or Journeyman/woman to Master, there must be at least three (3) Masters serving on the evaluation committee. In rare exceptions Senior Journeymen/women may be substituted for one or two of these recommendations if it is impossible to gather that many Masters. Both of these advancements may be done in the South if the proper craftspeople are gathered. If no other format for advancement is laid out per the specific craft, assume there would be a combination of written/oral testing as well as practical testing.
(n) indicates an NPC/free persona. You may freely use in your writing, but remain true to the persona sheet if one exists. NPC/free personas are also normally adoptable (only as PCs); contact Council for further information.
Note: For purposes of the club, Dragonhealer and Runner are considered independent Crafts. Also, since the Starsmith Craft did not come into being as an independent Craft until after the discovery of AIVAS and we are a non-AIVAS club, Council has opted to allow it but leave it as a specialty within the Smithcraft.
