| GREEN RIDER ALEANDRA |
![]()
Persona : Aleandra
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 21
Gender : Female
Rank/Craft : Greenrider
Residence : Thread's End Weyr
Physical Description : Aleandra has fine, long facial features, dominated by large green eyes. Her figure is curvy, with round hips and full breasts. Flight leathers flatter her, but she hardly goes beyond that to dress up her appearance, blending well into a background of riders. She has fine blonde hair, often worn in a thin but long braid for convenience while performing duties. Her skin is fair, and that is after turns in the southern sun; her ancestors came from High Reaches, and were pastier still. She has no prominent scars, just a few well-healed white streaks down her shoulder and back.
Personality : Aleandra is on the surface amiable, easily getting along with both men and women. She has no prominent personality dysfunction to make her particularly memorable, but she is a pleasant conversation partner, listening well and sharing readily. She has heard many harper tales, talked to many a traveler, and as a child read and copied many scrolls, giving her a good repertoire of stories to tell or an occasional knowing smile as she relishes in this superiority.
Under this surface of calm and stability, Aleandra is prone to strong emotions and sometimes reacts disproportionately to what many would consider minor incidents, good or bad. She dislikes this flaw in discipline and tries to check herself as much as possible in the company of all but the closest people, lest she come across as too angry, too sad, too eager to please, or too anything out of the norm. She would like to be collected at all times, a state she has only been able to maintain while flying Thread.
Life Story : Aleandra's family moved to the Southern Continent when she was young, and she does not remember much of the Hold she was born in nor of her father. She traveled across the waters with her mother and younger brother, and has never met her extended family, though she assumes she has half-siblings prospering somewhere in the North. She spent several turns in or around Sonnette's Dawn Hold, as her mother prepared to start a small farmhold of her own, a task in theory possible to accomplish for a woman in the southern order or things, but still near impossible in practice.
Aleandra took well to her studies in the Hold, and apprenticed in healing. She was always fascinated with Harpers and never missed a song, but that was not a practical craft for a family soon to be isolated in hostile woods. She worked hard to learn a bit from everyone, the tanners, the weavers, the beastcrafters and farmers. Her brother apprenticed as a smith, sticking to his chosen craft in a leasurely apprenticeship as his sister tried to be everywhere at once. The siblings met a lot of people at the Hold, but few families remained constant, much unlike the North, where families were carved for generations into the stone of the same Hold. The one constantly irritating presence over the turns was a young man called Renioken, son to a rich holder, always quick to show off his fine runner or to orchestrate pranks on Aleandra. He was the main reasons Aleandra grew to be unladylike, more competitive and assertive than she aught to be, and determined to thwart him with what resources were given to her rather than act the part of a helpless girl.
As plans to move on were finally in place, Aleandra saw her first dragons up close, visiting the Hold on Search. A brownrider thought she would be great candidate, and though Aleandra's mother gave the dragonman mistrusting looks she had to consent, and watched her only daughter carried away with the other candidates. Aleandra Impressed green Aryath her first time on the Sands, all other plans evaporating before the newborn goal of raising the fittest, fastest, best-oiled green beauty in the Weyr. Aleandra was a dutiful weyrling but too active for her own good, when by all rights she should have been exhausted. She pushed Aryath to try acrobatics, she flew without straps, raced against older pairs, and went alone on long scenic straight flights (Aryath chanting all the way that they could just go /between/). She was undeterred by spills on the Weyr floor, crash landings in the lake, or getting Aryath stuck in a tree. The only person that kept her out of major trouble was her more sensible best friend and fellow weyrling, Chantara.
As she entered the fighting Wings, Aleandra's life was complicated by the arrival of her childhood nemesis, R'ioke, his ego grown proportional to his bronze Ciorith and sprinkled with a new flavor of arrogance from Fort Weyr. Ciorith caught Aryath on her first flight, and the subsequent emotional ups and downs of trying on the role of lover among habits of antagonism took a toll on the young greenrider's wellbeing. She increasingly resented R'ioke's newfound tact and success in the Wings, his unexpectedly quickly promotion to Wingsecond and then Wingleader, while she lost friends and neglected family with her constantly changing moods. Following the loss of Weyrleader A'dlar, R'ioke steped into the shoes of Acting Weyrleader, forgetting the greenrider in favor of duties, goldriders, and in general being the center of all Weyr life. The greenrider felt abandoned and betrayed, no matter how hard she tried to behave as was fitting an adult dragonrider. When she realized that on top of all her other troubles she was also pregnant and too far along to end /between/, Aleandra resolved to cut her ties to R'ioke and her formerly beloved Weyr, requesting leave of Weyrwoman Cadrina to transfer to Ierne Weyr. It was not her finest moment, a desperate evacuation, but her pride would not let her admit it out loud.
Over the next two turns, she settled into the role of a reliable wingrider, among new mates that never witnessed her shipwreck performance at Sonnette's Dawn, but it was a small consolation for leaving her home. She saw her daughter fostered at Canara Creek Hold, the small home carved out by Aleandra's mother, trying to act like a responsible mother and a better daughter. At the new Weyr, she developed a friendship with Wingleader En'rin. The boyish bronzerider was her first friend at the Weyr, and the one who snapped her out of wallowing in misery in the time she was unable to fly Threadfall nor meet anyone new in her pregnant state. His Baguelth caught Aryath multiple times, but he was always more friend than lover, too busy and lighthearted to get bogged down in all the tumult going on in Aleandra's head. Despite being one of the nicest people she ever met, En'rin was also logical and she had to admit he was far more interested in flattering goldriders than appeasing Aleandra's moods. This simple fact grated against Aleandra's holdbred vanity, but there was little she could do about it without being reproached as a child, or worse yet, ignored.
Aleandra missed the comradery of people with whom she Impressed and the heat of Thread's End, going over and over past events to highlight all the ways she could have behaved more sensibly. She has considered transferring back many times, but the first time she got up the nerve to request it she was denied with a vague "too new to her Wing to undertake another major change," or a nice way of saying "you made your decision, now stick to it." After her second turn she requested again, doing her best to highligh good performance and familiarity with Thread's End. She was given a lukewarm yes, which was the same amount of enthusiasm she got from En'rin. He hinted that she would do better to stay where she finally settled, to show some maturity. Aleandra did not care, she was both excited to go back, and terrified that she was already acting like her old wherryheaded self. However, while nothing else was certain, Aleandra's mind was firmly set to return to Thread's End Weyr.
Dragon's Name : Aryath
Dragon's Colour : Green
Dragon's Age : 4
Sire/Dam : Bronze Golgameth and Gold Wyth
Rider's Age at Impression : 17
Physical Dragon : Aryath is a long, lean green dragon, large by comparison to others of her color in wingspan though not in bulk. She has great endurance and maneuverability in the air, but she is slow to gather momentum. Aryath is very nimble in the air and learned a great amount of maneuvers as a weyrling, most not applicable to Threadfall but great for a show. She is even graceful on the ground, a fact of which she is proud, despite her embarrassment at practicing when she was small, with other dragons lounging in the sun and teasing her with comparisons to newborn herdbeasts. There was a time her color was dull, but after the stay at Ierne she is back to her radiant young self, the color of fresh spring leaves and covered daily with oil.
Dragon's Personality:Aryath is a clever green, sharing her rider's appreciation of wit. Unfortunately her attention span is rather short and she often doesn't get to the punch line by the time something else catches her eye or she dozes off in the sun. She loves splashing around in water and sunbathing on hot rocks, and thus did not appreciate Ierne's cold waters. Though she is quick to forget most things, she reminded Aleandra daily that Thread's End was warmer than Ierne, especially if ordered to take a dip in cold water. She is quick to mimic her rider's mood and even gestures, but left to her own devices she is back to her lazy, coy self in minutes, cuddling up to a male she favors or dropping her wise one-liners from on high.
Pet Name : Letta
Pet Species : Firelizard
Pet Color : Green
Pet Description : Letta is a chatterbox of a green, and unlike most of her kind, hardly ever settles down, preferring to poke into things and get in the way. Despite being called a stupid flit on a daily basis by her owner, usually upon finding new things to knock over, she has been known to carry messages to the correct location every time, and almost always remembering to give up the scroll in exchange for some meat. After making a ruckus and hissing at strangers she warms up quickly and allows them to flip her upside down, toss her in the air, and otherwise act in an undignified manner. She is a slightly darker forest green than Aryath, and likes to shadow the big dragon at feeding time, pilfering strips of carcass. She loves shelves, tapestries, and all sorts of containers, anything she can fit into to hide or fashion into a nest.Last updated on 09-Jan-10.
