APPRENTICE SMITH ALIONEL

Persona : Alionel
Writing Status : NPC/Owned
Age : 20
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Apprentice Smith
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr

Physical Description : Alionel got more from his mother than his father's side of the family. He has his mother's reddish hair and is built significantly shorter and less bulky than his father and his older brother Alkron. Still, he doesn't exactly qualify as short or skinny either. He did inherit his father's curiosity though and his hazel eyes always dart around, taking in his surroundings with intense interest.

Personality : Alionel is a perky young man, totally at odds with his older brother's stoical nature. He likes to explore and experiment, having a knack for the more chemical side of the Smithcraft. His fascination with fire and explosives comes in a close second after his fascination with dragonkind. He was one of the driving forces behind the family's move to Ierne Island Weyr; and, even after a few gold flights have passed without so much as a dragon sniff in his direction, he isn't ready to give up hope yet to get Searched.

Life Story : Born as the third child of Kronel and Alionette at Telgar, Alionel grew up with a smart-alecky older sister he could argue with and a big older brother he could depend on whenever his arguments got him into trouble. He was seven turns of age when his father gave up journeying and finally settled down with his already considerably large family. When he was ten, the family moved to Crom where his father took a position as Mastersmith.

Two turns after they arrived at the Minecrafthall, Search riders from High Reaches Weyr visited the Hall. It was the first time for the young boy that he had a chance to see a dragon up close and even touch it. He was instantly hooked onto the idea that one day he would become a dragonrider. Much to his chagrin, the dragon Searched his older sister instead if him. He was almost as green as her hatchling with envy when she Impressed.

Having no idea what else to do with his life, Alionel apprenticed to the Smithcraft at age fourteen, joining his father and brother at the workshop. He soon got interested in the chemical side of the craft and started experimenting. Kronel always kept a wary eye on his son's dabbling with agenothree, but Alionel proved to be careful enough not to blow up his father's smithy. Much to his father's concern, the boy loved to impress the other kids with tricks from his chemistry toolbox more than learning about the basics of metal smithing.

When a new Weyr opened up in the South and was looking for a Mastersmith, Alionel immediately latched onto the idea of getting his father to take the job. It was no easy task, but with some string-pulling and lots of help from his siblings and mother, they managed to convince his father of the necessity to move again. Upon arrival at the Weyr, Alionel moved into apprentice quarters with his older brother Alkron, giving him a little bit of distance from the rest of the family. He thoroughly enjoys not having to explain to his parents any longer where he spent his night and with whom. Whenever his expeditions into Weyrlife get him into trouble, he can still count on his big brother Alkron to back him up.

Six turns into his apprenticeship, Alionel has developed second thoughts about his choice of craft. He desperately wants his father to be proud of him, but he has come to realize that he could never fake enough interest in metal smithing to live up to Kronel's expectations of a good smith. The frustration about his inability to bond with his adored father on the level of equals has led the young man to withdraw from his family.
