Physical Description : Amiri has green eyes and light brown hair that bleaches to blonde in the summer. She regularly changes her haircut, usually when she feels she has run out of interesting ways to keep the current style out of her face. Her skin is naturally very pale, she has never been able to tan decently despite all her efforts to encourage a healthy golden glow. Her skin's only concession in this battle is a light sprinkle of freckles across her nose and cheeks. Amiri is slightly taller than average, but most people don't realize it unless they stand right next to her because her petite frame makes her seem smaller than she is in reality.

Personality : In company, Amiri is generally easygoing and cheerful, often allowing others in a group to carry a conversation while only adding occasional comments of her own. Sometimes she can be downright gregarious, especially when topics turn to her personal interests of music and sewing. Many of her acquaintances would be astonished to hear Amiri describe herself as an introvert, but those who know her well can attest to her need to be away from large groups of people after a certain amount of time in a crowd.

Amiri's two loves in life both reflect her slightly perfectionist tendency. In composing, playing, and singing, she enjoys the challenge of bringing exactly the right elements together at the right time to produce the highest quality of music; she also enjoys helping the children of the Weyr as they learn the traditional Teaching Songs and histories of Pern. Her hobby is sewing quilts, and she loves the process of designing a pattern, choosing the perfect fabrics, and watching the whole project come together in what she often thinks of as a visual symphony.

Otherwise, she is grumpy when she hasn't had enough sleep, likes mashed tubers, and has an irrational fear of wherries.

Life Story : Amiri was born in a runnerbeast hold on the Northern Continent to parents of modest means. She has two older brothers and a younger sister. Her brothers have remained at the hold to help their parents in the business, while she and her sister were apprenticed to the Harper and Weaver Crafts, respectively. Amiri showed an early talent as a vocal student, and has a light, clear soprano voice. She plays guitar and harp well enough to teach, but her true instrumental love is a simple pipe with six finger holes.

She spent the early part of her journeying on the Southern Continent, but found that the lack of seasonal change and what she called "this sweltering heat" did not agree with her as much as she had anticipated. She transferred to Ierne Island Weyr, where she now complains happily about the cold and often repeats one of her favorite quips - "You can always put more on, but you can only take so much off!"

Her official duties include teaching the older Weyrchildren, providing entertainment at the evening meals when requested by the Weyrleaders, and all the other odd jobs that Harpers everywhere do.

Pet Description: Moxie is a female canine, descended from one of the ancient mastiff breeds. She is medium-sized, her shoulder coming only just to Amiri's knee, but is heavy and muscular through the chest. Moxie is gentle with those she knows, but is cautious of strangers. She has a short coat of black fur with white markings on her nose, chest, and toes. All of Amiri's students love her, and she loves them because they all sneak scraps from the kitchens to give her. She is very well-trained and often accompanies Amiri to class, lying in a patch of sunlight through the morning lessons.
