Physical Description : Shoulder length soft wavy hair, dark brown mixed with gray. Blue eyes with smile lines. Skin is well tanned from daily exposure to the southern sun. Thin athletic body build, she stands 5 foot tall. Astira walks with a cane because of an injured knee. She wears a sunhat most days with trousers and a tunic. Seldom seen in a dress because of the nature of her work.

Personality : A powerhouse, very intelligent and not afraid to voice an opinion. Smiles frequently, speaks softly, so her appearance is deceptive and at odds with her strong will and desire to heal. She is an excellent instructor.

Life Story : Tireless researcher in the search for new medicines. Astira walks the southern continent usually accompanied by an apprentice healer or harper. As a young child, she was kicked by a runnerbeast. Her knee was fractured and because the hold was small and the "healer" incompetent she never healed properly. Therefore she walks with a limp and requires a cane. Born in a small hold beholden to Fort Hold in the north, she apprenticed in the healer hall at the age of 12. Her first assignment out of the Healer Hall, she was assigned to southern weyr, and never wanted to return north. She is currently assigned to Irene Island Weyr but has has spent much of her life in the south wilds looking for new herbs and testing insect venoms to assist healing.
