Persona : Caront
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 25
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Journeyman Smith
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr
Physical Description : Caront is a rather tall man, standing slightly over six feet. He has jet black hair that is thin enough to where it rarely stays in place. This can prove humorous at times, especially when brisk winds blow across the Weyr bowl and an observer finds him furiously struggling to keep his hair parted correctly. As for the rest of his face, Caront has dark green eyes set in a face that most prominently features a thin, unusually sharp nose. Although he wasn't blessed with the perfect teeth that he so often sees in higher-ranking people, Caront's wide mouth and prominent dimples lend themselves toward a smile that he features often. Of course, life in a smithy has earned him his share of scars. The most prominent of these scars are a slight pock on his right cheek and a long scar on his left forearm where the forge turned against him.
As a smith, Caront can't help but be well-muscled, due to the rigors of the forge. Of course, as a tall man, he leans away from the stocky nature of many smiths, but prefers it that way.
When he isn't garbed in the necessary raiments of a smith, one can find him in simple garb without a great deal of unnecessary color. Though he's come under some criticism for his supposed lack of fashion sense, he can and has whipped out formal wear that astonish his erstwhile critics.
Personality : Caront has taken many qualities of the smithy to heart. Though he steers away from the hard drinking that many of his fellows espouse, he does tend to be a bit aloof from others. While many of his acquainatances are puzzled at this and a few believe him to have no personality at all, he simply prefers to let life happen around him and take everything in.The forge has become not only his life's work and his passion, but also his place of solace. When the unexpected comes to pass, one can often find him back in the forge, channeling any anger or anxiety into whatever piece he has before him. This tendency has, naturally, come to reinforce the perception of him as aloof and bland, but the perception never has bothered him enough to warrant any change in his style.
In those rare times that Caront does escape from the forge, one can often find him sitting near the docks, mulling over one idea or another. Caront finds that the docks are the perfect place for him to sit back and people-watch; unfortunately, he often finds himself coopted into loading and unloading goods while he's there, much to his chagrin.
Life Story : Caront was born at Crom Hold, on month 6, PP 12. Caront's father was Caralin, one of many miners at the Hold, and his mother was Maonta, one of the Hold's cooks. Caront's father tried to steer his son toward the time-honored and traditional family job of mining, but the young man found his niche taking the raw products of his father and turning them into usable objects in the smithy.Caront's budding talent soon found the attention of the resident Mastersmith at the time, Kronel. The two became fast friends and Caront found himself as one of the taller heads adorning their dinner table at times. Under Kronel's tutelage, Caront became more astute and rose to Journeyman status in the Smithcraft.
Upon becoming a Journeyman, Caront strained to see more of the world than the narrow mine shafts and caves of Crom permitted. His father had trouble understanding his ambition, as the elder had been on affectionate terms with the Hold his entire life. His mother, however, knew the makings of rebellion when she saw it, and Maonta convinced her pliable husband to let go of his independent son.
Caront left Crom shortly after becoming Journeyman and plied his trade through the western Holds and Weyrs of the northern continent, even spending some time in Fort. Caront never made it to the east, however, as a more alluring prospect came his way during his time at Fort: journeying south to fill the Smith ranks at Thread's End.
Caront spent a couple of years at Thread's End Weyr, where he became more adept at fashioning housewares and luxury items. After his time at Thread's End, Caront found more opportunity at the newly opened Ierne Island Weyr. Although Caront would have journeyed there for that reason alone, he found additional motivation after learning that Mastersmith Kronel had decided to move there, albeit kicking and screaming. The two renewed their friendship and camaraderie upon meeting at Ierne Island and Caront happily took his place as an assistant in Kronel's frantic smithy.
After a few months at Ierne Island, Caront felt that he needed more training in order to excel at his craft, and journeyed to Telgar for that training. He has recently completed that training and has returned to Ierne Island, looking forward to working with Kronel again and to improving his Crafting skills.
