WEYRLEADER CR'LEB
JOURNEYMAN WOODCRAFTER

Persona: Cr'leb
Writing Status: NPC/Free
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Rank: Wingleader IIW/UFLT, Bronze Rider of Ilyeth, Journeyman Woodcrafter
Residence: Ierne Island Weyr
Birthplace: Igen Weyr
Father's Name: Cr'den (deceased)
Father's Rank: Bronze Rider
Mother's Name: Lebrye
Mother's Rank: Green Rider

Physical Description: Tall, about 6'2". Much of his height is in his torso, not his legs. Cr'leb has wavy, short, sandy brown hair. He'd let it grow out, but then it gets curly and he doesn't like it. He has deep brown eyes, a pale complexion (except where he's been burned darker from much time outdoors), and a nose that's slightly too large for his face.

Personality: When it comes to his dragon or his position, Cr'leb is supremely confident. He takes care of those under him and makes sure they understand what he expects of them. He believes in letting people do all that they can on their own before helping them, but when they are genuinely out of their depth, he is the first to lend a helping hand. He is a very organised person though he doesn't have the best memory, so he is constantly writing notes to himself. He has complete confidence in Ilyeth, his bronze, and is strengthened emotionally by his support and love. He is a very blunt person, though he can be diplomatic when the need arises. Don't expect him to mince words or take a roundabout way to the point of a conversation; you'll hear that point right at the beginning or not at all. When it comes to personal matters, however, Cr'leb is very unsure of himself. He is not good at relationships with women. For the most part, his only "relationships" occur when Ilyeth flies a female. Most of the time he is a gentle, caring man. His only fault is that when he's angry (and usually it's at himself), the person nearby takes the brunt of his anger. He's never violent, however, and Cr'leb will eventually apologise. It'll be awhile before that side of him is seen again. Ilyeth is a great calming influence.

Life Story: Cranleb was born at Igen Weyr. His mother and father were both dragonriders, so he was fostered right away to a woman in the Lower Caverns. His childhood was a difficult one. He suffered from being a little chubby, and many of the other children made fun of him. He was a quiet person, interested in the Harper lessons. He learned to read when he was very young, outstripping many of the older students who suffered from disinterest. This did not earn him any more good feelings from the other youngsters. From the beginning, Cranleb had a love of dragons. He was thrilled whenever his mother or father allowed him to ride with them, though he didn't often get the chance. When he was six Turns old, his mother had another child, a girl: his half-sister. He adored his sister whom Lebrye named Bryeda, and was overjoyed when Lebrye fostered her to his own foster-mother. His attentions were rewarded by the little girl's love. She followed him around everywhere once she grew old enough. As he grew older, Cranleb often found himself protecting Bryeda and some of the younger children from the older bullies. He had had enough of that as a child and didn't like to see others subjected to it.

By the time he was twelve, Cranleb was determined to stand on the sands as a candidate, but he was not chosen by any of the dragons. For two Turns he waited, but there wasn't one draconic sniff in his direction. Despondent, and sure he wasn't good enough to be a dragonrider, he started looking into crafts to see what else he could do with his life.

He decided that he liked woodcrafting because he got to work with his hands. He moved to Lemos, where he apprenticed in the Woodcraft. He did well, walking the tables at seventeen. Halfway into his first Turn as a journeyman, Cranleb ran into an old acquaintance of his from the Weyr when riders were sent to pick up journeymen being assigned to distant Holds.

Vr'ley, one of Cranleb's old tormenters, and his green Kaiath, were waiting to transport two of the Hall's journeymen. Cranleb approached them with some trepidation. That Vrolley had Impressed was a good indication that he had changed (for what dragon would have wanted the old Vrolley?), but Cranleb still wasn't quite sure what his reception would be. Vr'ley, however, had changed, and was quite friendly. What's more, Kaiath was very interested in the journeyman. And there was a clutch on the sands. He was Searched!

To make matters even better, the clutch had been sired by Cranleb's father's bronze, Ganneth. Cranleb's wait had been worth it, for when the eggs hatched, a little struggling bronze dragonet made his way straight to him, and announced, My name is Ilyeth!

Soon after Impressing, Cr'leb and Ilyeth had a traumatic experience, for during Threadfall, Cr'den and Ganneth were fatally scored. Cr'leb always regretted that he didn't get to know his father better.

Fourteen Turns later, Cr'leb was transferred to Thread's End Weyr, where they were in need of more experienced bronzeriders. He later transfered to Ierne Island when the new Weyr opened up and in Month 4 of Turn 37 he became Weyrleader, a position he held until Month 12 of that Turn.

Dragon's Name: Ilyeth
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Dragon's Age: 16
Sire/Dam: transfer
Rider's Age at Impression: 17

Physical Dragon: Ilyeth is a medium-large bronze, up there in size but not anywhere near the largest of bronzes. He's a dark tarnished bronze colour with a lighter belly. He has two Thread scars; a short one on his shoulder (the rest got Cr'leb's leg) and a long one on his tail.

Dragon's Personality: Ilyeth is a very likeable dragon. He is easygoing, and a calming and supportive influence on Cr'leb. Where Cr'leb is unsure, Ilyeth is certain. He watches out for the dragons in his wing much as Cr'leb watches out for the riders. He likes to spend time talking to other dragons while he suns himself on the beach. Ilyeth likes firelizards and thinks Cr'leb should get one, but so far Cr'leb has resisted the temptation. Maybe one day the bronze will convince his stubborn rider and he will have another little friend.
