Persona : Derallan
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 17
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Apprentice Harper
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr
Physical Description : Derallan is a tall young man with straight black hair that falls in his eyes. He is constantly brushing his hair with the back of a hand or a flip of his head to be able to see more clearly. His height is about 6'3" tall, with a wiry frame but good muscles. His brown eyes give the appearance of sadness and concern, but there is still a bit of the boy in him and they twinkle with mischievousness at times as well.
Personality : Derallan is a young man in search of himself. He has not developed a strong sense of self confidence, and often reflects the low sense of self worth that was thrust upon him by an overbearing father who had no patience for his youngest son. He feels he is not good enough at anything he tries, and has so far shown no strong aptitude for any one thing in particular. He has been essentially just hanging on at the Harper Hall, because he has not yet learned to apply himself.
His laugh is contagious, and his brown eyes often sparkle with playfulness, but when he is deep in concentration, or in a serious situation his eyes become dark and show his concern and soberness of the situation.
Life Story : Derallan is the youngest son of holder Odlan. He was never fostered so spent his formative years at his fathers hold. Odlan, a small holder in the Telgar area, was eager to make a name for himself and prove his worth as a small holder. He had little time for his youngest son, and often pushed him aside when he was not capable of doing a "mans" job. This left the youngster emotionally scarred. When Green Ridge Hold was established, Odlan opted to relocate his whole family to Green Ridge Hold area. At that time, Derallan applied to Threads End Harper hall, and was accepted as an apprentice.
Derallan recently returned "home" after surviving the rubella at TEHH, to spend a few sevendays with his family. Nothing has changed however, his father is still too busy to care that he almost lost his youngest son to the disease, and the two have argued every time they see each other while he has been home.
Derallan feels that no matter what he does it is never good enough for his father. He has tried everything to get his approval it seems with no favorable results. Derallan wants to be the best at something in his life, something that shines out as a beacon saying I can do 'it', whatever 'it' turns out to be. But he feels that he is a humdrum individual that will never amount to much more than a youngest son of a holder. His father and himself have had a fight, so Derallan, forsaking the Harper Hall, is making his way towards GRH proper, hoping to find something that he has a talent in so that he can hold his head high and show his father he can do something outstanding.
