Physical Description: J'rez is middle-aged and it's starting to show. Subtle lines are visible in his forehead and around his eyes and mouth. At his temples and the back of his neck, his chocolate brown hair has wisps of silver in it. His eyes are light golden-brown, and years in the sun has given them a semi-permanent squint. His hair comes just to the nape of his neck at the back and tends to be greasy. His eyebrows are thin and darker than his hair. His eyes have just a slight oriental tilt to them, suggesting a racially mixed ancestry. He has a strong nose and a mouth just slightly too big for his face. His chin is square and dimpled. He is a little over six feet tall, with the muscular build typical of dragonriders.

Personality: J'rez is an average guy, almost to the point of being boring. He gets along with most people, loves his kids, and (despite being reasonably attractive) has perpetual bad luck with women. He's not particularly talkative, or particularly excitable, or anything. He's just J'rez... Mr. 'Nice-Guys-Finish-Last.'

Life Story: Jerrez' childhood was singularly un-interesting. He was an only child and the only thing of note that happened between the day he was born and the day he turned 16 was that he was apprenticed to the seacraft at age 12. At age 17, sevendays from earning his journeyman's knot and for no reason at all that his parents could discern, he changed his mind and became a dolphineer instead. By working hard, he earned his journeyman's knot at the age of 20 and was partnered with a female dolphin named May. A little more than six months later, May went out for a swim and never returned. Nobody was ever to find out what became of her.

When he was Searched eight months later, Jerrez was at first reluctant to go. There was still some hope that May was alive, wasn't there? It took a great deal of convincing from many people to make Jerrez go to Igen Weyr with the Search dragon. He really didn't expect to Impress at all, much less a bronze, but Hyloth hatched and headed right for Jerrez.

The first mating flight Hyloth ever won was with a green named Cayth. Cayth's rider, Marias, became J'rez' weyrmate and they lived together for some Turns, during which time their daughter Minona was born. Mina was (and still, at age 19, is) the apple of her father's eye. She inherited his dark brown hair and golden eyes. Some Turns later, Marias had an affair with another rider, and her son Cayrias was the result. Marias and Cayth died in a Fall not long after Cayrias was born, without ever disclosing who the boy's father was. J'rez gave Cayrias to the same foster-mother who was raising his five-Turns-older half-sister Minona.

When Minona was fifteen, she Stood for a Hatching and Impressed green Lyth. Three Turns later, Cayrias followed his sister's example and Impressed brown Forthoth. Minona is now 19 and C'rias 14, and the whole family recently transferred to Thread's End Weyr.

Dragon's Personality: Hyloth is much like his rider, though a bit more aggressive where females are concerned, and very protective of Lyth and Forthoth, almost as if he were their father (which he is not).

Physical Dragon: At the smaller end of the size scale for bronzes. Hyloth is a very definite green-gold colour, not like some bronzes which are more coppery. He has no large Threadscores on his body, though one wing is laced with thin lines from a very close call.
