Physical Description : Kemai is a touch taller than average, of lean build. His hair is dark brown, nearly black, and just past shoulder length, usually worn in a tail to keep it out of the way. He has deep set hazel eyes, probably his most attractive feature. He has a long, loping stride and most people have to jog a bit to keep up with him. He has long, slender fingers, and prefers to dress in sober, dark colours.

Personality : Kemai has an interesting bedside manner; it's more or less completely absent. He'll keep conversations with patients to an absolute minimum for the most part, getting straight to the facts, and without much in the way of tact. Outside of work hours, he's somewhat more pleasant - or manages to be mostly civil, at least. He tends to the abrupt, keeping others at arms length.

Why would someone who doesn't appear to actually like people very much become a healer? Simply put, it's because Kemai loves puzzles - and illness and disease can be the greatest puzzle of all.

Life Story : Kemai was one of nine children; he was also the most curious. It was a reasonably large hold, and fairly prosperous, so boasted a resident harper, and Kemai pestered the poor man for all he was worth. Not to mention tackling anyone who might possibly have any knowledge of whatever question or puzzle was then engrossing him.

The harper realised that, not only was young Kemai smarter than average, he was also a focused investigator. Early thoughts of archivists' work were shelved when it became obvious to all - including Kemai - that such a sedentary life would not suit him at all; he craved something with more action. Thus he decided on healing as being likely to provide more mental stimulation, more challenge, more opportunities for travel.

Kemai's apprenticeship passed reasonably smoothly - a few visits to various Masters for discussions about his attitude, but nothing that caused any permanent change.in his behaviour. If anything, as he moved through his apprenticeship and early journeyman years, Kemai gradually became more and more the blunt, tactless man everyone knows and loves (ha!) today.

Enticed by the thought of new diseases and illnesses to investigate in the South, he moved to Thread's End Weyr partway through turn 37; settling in well enough, and actually making a few friends (when he didn't forget their names). There has been one major sad note, with Kemai's blue fire lizard, Ki Ki, dying in the earthshake late that turn. Since then he has Impressed a gold fire lizard he named Tura.

Pet Description : Hatched in the third month of turn 38, Tura is a small and delicate gold lizard. She's sweet natured with Kemai, but imperious with any firelizards nearby, despite her youth. Kemai is working on training her to be able to fetch and carry, and take messages, but she sometimes gets a touch distracted at this stage.
