SENIOR JOURNEYMAN SEACRAFTER KINNERK
WIND'S BRIDE CAPTAIN

Persona : Kinnerk
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 51
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Sr. Journeyman Seacrafter, Captain of the Wind's Bride
Residence : North Tip Fishing Hold

Physical Description : Kinnerk is a stocky man with a weathered face, usually seen in his favorite dark blue sweater and with his worn fisherman's cap skewed on his head as if to taunt the wind into trying to blow it off. The color of his eyes is hard to make out, as he tends to squint - a habit born at sea. His salt-and-pepper hair and matching beard are often in wild disarray, especially if he has spent a longer time at sea, far away from his wife's trimming scissors. Despite his somewhat shaggy appearance, he still manages to convey the authority that makes the difference between someone giving orders and those taking orders.

Personality : Kinnerk is happiest when sailing his ship towards new fishing grounds with the confidence of the old fisherman he is, but quickly becomes restless when forced to stay ashore. He likes a good joke, including practical ones played on unsuspecting crewmen or the occasional wanna-be-pirate the *Wind's Bride* might encounter at sea, and spins a fishermen's yarn that could reach three times around the planet if spread out in a line. Most of his tall stories elude the landlubbers who often find it hard to decipher Kinnerk's odd seaman dialect.

Life Story : Kinnerk was born at Tillek and raised by fishermen, spending most of his life at sea. Aboard their father's ship, he and his older brother Kleemens were inseparable throughout their times as ship boys and later able fisherman.

At their threshold to manhood, the brothers courted the same girl, their neighbor's daughter Hareike. She soon became pregnant, but was unable to tell who the father was. The brothers took it with good humor and decided to "share" fatherhood, and Hareike agreed to run the household for the happy trio. During the following turns, a daughter and another boy joined the first-born son, all kids growing up diplomatically referring to both Kinnerk and Kleemens as their "uncles".

Disaster struck when a storm claimed Kinnerk and Kleemens' father's boat and life. In the wake of the tragedy, the two brothers decided to start afresh with their own boat and move to the South. They pooled their savings and acquired a topsail schooner, not exactly the newest ship in port but their first very own. Naming it the Wind's Bride, they took their family and joined a group of fishermen setting out to start a settlement on the northern tip of Ierne Island.

Soon after their arrival, fate struck a second time when Kleemens was severely injured during a fishing trip. Though he survived the accident at first, the inflicted wound became gangrenous and the infection killed him before the schooner could reach harbor, leaving Kinnerk in charge of ship and crew. After losing his brother to the sea, he threw himself into work, spending even more time offshore than ever before. His crew trusts his seafaring abilities and so far has never been disappointed.

Pet's Name : Whip
Pet's Type : Canine
Pet's Color : Black and White

Pet's Description and Personality : In appearance, Whip closely resembles the old earth race of the Jack Russell terrier. He is a true and hardy ship canine, an excellent swimmer, and rarely leaves the Wind's Bride that is his domain. The sailors at North Tip tend to refer to Whip as the bowlegged black-and-white sausage with the iron bite. Barely standing higher than his captain's boot, Whip is convinced he's the biggest and fiercest canine sailing the seas of Pern. The ferocious little tyke takes his job as official guard and overseer on the Wind's Bride deadly serious like only a devoted canine can. Nobody gets aboard without his permission, and a whistle for Whip is Captain Kinnerk's fastest way to clear the deck and get the sailors up the rigging.
