BRONZERIDER M'LAN

Persona : M'lan
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 35
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Bronzerider, Wingrider
Residence : Thread's End Weyr

Physical Description : M'lan has regular, symmetrical features and is relatively tall, with a slender, wiry strength. His lanky build gives his confident gait grace. He wears his light brown hair just long enough to tie back into a tight, short tail high on his head. His dark eyes are framed by magnificent, sharp cheekbones, while his lips are full and wide. He has thick, white, even teeth that contrast against his tan features. His fingers are long and elegant with calluses that, in addition to marking him as a dragonrider, are reminiscent of a harper's, for he also plays the lute.

Personality : M'lan has cultivated an air of brooding mystery in recent years, and he likes to play the role of the strong, silent type. This is partly by necessity due to his injury, and partly because he's under strict orders not to cause the kind of stir he was famous for in the North. In his younger years he was a charming philanderer, charismatic and the life of the party, but he's matured in recent years and takes his reputation and responsibilities more seriously. While he always did his duty, encouraging his wingmates to work together and performing the tasks of a wingsecond with quiet efficiency, he has become a bit withdrawn, but still willing to lend a private hand. His love of challenge hasn't changed.

Life Story : A weyrbred boy from Telgar Weyr, M'lan's dam was a junior weyrwoman and his sire most likely her weyrmate, a brownrider, though he may have been sired by the bronzerider who flew her dragon in the previous year's mating flight. No one can be sure, and to be truthful, no one much cared. His mother fostered him to the assistant headwoman. He had an unremarkable childhood, though he gained an early reputation for charisma and using the force of his personality to encourage his agemates to cooperate in games and chores. During his early adolescent years, he was known as a quite the charmer of young ladies, particularly the Searched, holdbred candidates, whom he paid especial attention, considering them a challenge.

He Impressed bronze Halatoth in his fifteenth Turn and focused on preparing to take his place in a wing. He had worked his way to the rank of wingsecond after a decade, despite continued pressure from his dragon to work harder to earn a higher rank. He is not by nature competitive, preferring to encourage cooperation as a method to getting things done, and while leadership is not alien to his personality, he is more dependent on being noticed than some of his more firebrand peers who are able to "put themselves out there," though he does enjoy a challenge.

After ten years, he had sired at least six children by various women in the Weyr and he there are at least a few holdbrats to bear a resemblance to him. He played almost no role in his children's lives, given the difficulty in being sure which are his specifically and the nature of the Weyr. However, he makes an effort to provide yearly trinkets to holder women who have reasonable claims of having borne his children, in order to avoid fostering resentment of the Weyr.

In his late twenties, his philandering ways caught up with him when he was caught in the act of bedding a holder's wife at a distant gather. Not knowing he was a dragonrider--in fact, having almost no opportunity to even see his face--the man attacked him in a rage, catching him unprepared and garroting him. Bronze Halatoth reacted in a fury at the risk to his rider, and there were dragonriders close enough nearby to prevent what might have ended in a double murder from a holder exercising low justice. Grave injury still occurred however, and despite the best efforts of the Weyr's healers and experts flown in from the Mastercrafthall, the bronzerider's vocal chords were permanently damaged.

In the wake of the disaster, M'lan was "encouraged" to transfer to the South, in hopes that the old adage of "out of sight, out of mind" would prove true and lessen the rising tensions between hold and weyr following the events would be alleviated.

Dragon's Name : Halatoth
Dragon's Colour : Bronze
Dragon's Age : 20
Sire/Dam : Transfer
Rider's Age at Impression : 15

Physical Dragon : Halatoth is small for a bronze, but quick and flexible. What he lacks in stamina compared to his brothers, he makes up for in stubbornness. He has an almost unnaturally long wingspan compared to the size of his body. His coloration is lighter than most bronzes, with coppery highlights.

Dragon's Personality:Halatoth is one of those rare dragons more ambitious than his rider. While not vain, he has a healthy ego and takes pride in his accomplishments and those of his rider. He has a better memory than most dragons, and is slow to make judgments though he tends to be remarkably sociable and curious. Perhaps to compensate for his rider's vocal problems, he is very communicative.
