WINGLEADER M'TAR |
![]()
Persona : M'tar (n)
Writing Status : NPC/Free
Age : 45
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Bronze Rider; Wingleader (TEW:CFLF)
Residence : Thread's End Weyr
Physical Description : M'tar stands close to six feet tall and is heavily built, most of his bulk being muscle. His hair is brown almost to black, but a touch of grey graces it at the temples, giving him an older, more distinguished appearance. Tiny, fine lines spread out from the corners of those eyes if one looks closely, attesting to a willingness to smile behind the cool exterior.
Personality : He's somewhat tight-lipped, using words sparingly, but those he utters are worth heeding. He rarely raises his voice, but those who have been pinned by the steely gaze of his deep blue eyes will readily admit there is no need.
History : Mevanitar grew up in the Holdless caverns of Igen, one of a brood of children born to his mother Meviy, although it is uncertain as to whom his father is. Life at Igen was difficult and Mevanitar soon learned to look after himself and his younger siblings in the harsh environment of his home. At five turns old one of his older brothers, Viyar, taught him how to use a knife for defence and in the following Turns he became particularly adept in its usage, to the point where he was spotted one evening by a guard from Igen Hold who was impressed by his finesse.
Soon after, Mevanitar found himself one of the contingent of guards assigned to keep peace at the Hold and while he never saw many of his siblings again due to their mistrust of his new position, Viyar often paid him a visit and kept him up to date on the happenings of his former home - the legitimate happenings, that is.
Mevanitar worked his way through the ranks with steely determination fuelled by a fear that if he were found to be lacking he would be sent back to the Holdless Caverns, a thought that was abhorrent to him after sampling the finer lifestyle of the Holdfolk. At the age of 19 Turns he was within a few ranks of becoming the Hold captain when a green dragon on Search put paid to his promising career.
The first time Mevanitar stood on the Hatching Sands he walked off unImpressed, but resolved to try at the next hatching and in the meantime learn as much about Weyr life as he could. The second Hatching he attended, Mevanitar was not disappointed and found himself the new lifemate of bronze Kileth.
M'tar approached his weyrling training with a militaristic attitude, his push for perfection sometimes earning the disapproval of the Weyrlingmaster as Kileth suffered from wingstrain on more than one occasion. Eventually, M'tar learned to temper his perfectionism for the sake of his dragon (somewhat helped by the range of extra chores the Weyrlingmaster created for him as punishment for not taking care of his dragon properly).
M'tar stayed on at Igen Weyr for several Turns, becoming experienced in the skill of threadfighting. Though he and Kileth had their fair share of minor injuries and near misses, they were never badly injured to the point that they missed more than one Fall at a time.
At the age of 29 M'tar was approached by Igen's Weyrleader about being promoted to a newly opened wingsecond position in the centre flight. At first apprehensive about taking the position, it had been a long time since he had been given a position of responsibility, M'tar eventually agreed. At first he was nervous, prone to minor mistakes and uncomfortable with his new rank but by the end of the first Turn with his new wing he had settled into his duties well enough.
In Turn 34 M'tar heard that a request for a new wingleader at Thread's End Weyr had been sent out to the Weyrs across Pern. Feeling ready for a new challenge, M'tar answered the request and was accepted as the wingleader for Shoulder Lead Wing. It took some time to adjust to the differences he found at Thread's End but Turns of experience allowed him to settle into his new duties quickly. Three turns later he was surprised, but not dismayed, to be reassigned as wingleader to Centre Flight Left Flank upon the promotion of the former wingleader, bronzerider R'ioke.
Dragon's Name : Kileth
Dragon's Colour : Bronze
Dragon's Age : 25
Sire and Dam : Transfer (Igen Weyr)
Age of Rider at Impression : 20
Physical Dragon : Kileth is an almost-copper shade of bronze, with even colouring all over except for a few white scars lacing his body where errant strands of Thread burned into his hide.
Kileth is a medium-to-large sized bronze, well proportioned with no real identifying marks other than the small chunk in the fork of his tail that was eaten mercilessly by Thread.
Dragon's Personality : Kileth takes a slightly more laid back approach to life than his rider and it is often the bronze's calming and reassuring influence that gets M'tar to put aside his duties for a short while to relax. Kileth is, however, just as serious about his duties as his rider and he is quick to reprimand any dragon under his command should they not be taking their duties to heart.
