| LOWER CAVERNS WORKER NERA |
![]()
Persona : Nera
Writing Status : NPC/Owned
Age : 25
Gender : Female
Rank/Craft : Drudge
Residence : Thread's End Weyr
Physical Description : Nera is a lovely cripple with pale olive skin and brown eyes. Her dark brown hair has been highlighted by the sun and is long enough to fall a few inches past her shoulders. She has a slight build despite her relative height, but is toned and limber except her right arm, which ends at the shoulder despite the best efforts of the healers. She walks with a somewhat stilted gait. Her chest is crossed with scars from a hatchling's claws. She likes wearing bright, gaudy colors but often cannot afford to, and has a relatively deep voice for a woman. She sings passably well as a contralto.
Personality : Nera used to be vivacious and full of life, a youth who liked to organize her agemates and play upon the affections of the males. She was not without a streak of vanity, proud of her appearance and her status as one of the few actually born at the Weyr in that time. Truth be told, she was a bit bossy. When she was chosen to stand on the sands for a hatching, she felt understandable pride and hope. However, after her injury, her life's hopes were dashed--there was no way she would be able to be a dragonrider, or even a crafter. The loss of her arm--and some of her beauty--has understandably soured her. With only one arm available to her, she must work very hard to complete her tasks so that she may retain her place, socially and professionally, low though it is. It is difficult for her to maintain the pace she needs, but Nera is determined and has had almost a decade to adapt. She hates it when people refer to her disability, and tries to ensure that there is no need too--she makes sure she is able to work just as well as people who have both of their arms. Though it is harder for her to be the same center of attention she was as a teen, she is still friendly and involved in the lower caverns social life, such as it is.
Life Story : Nera is the weyrbred daughter of a brown rider and the assistant headwoman of the time. Though she was, for obvious reasons, not particularly close to her father, he did take an interest in her and tended to give her small gifts on holidays. She was not fostered. In her youth, she was a social child intent on Impressing a dragon, something both of her parents encouraged. She had a number of friends, and in fact was considered a leader of her agemates, always organizing games and chores. When she was 16--a full turns after she'd hoped--she was permitted to stand for Gold Salarnath's clutch. Despite her hopes and the numerous hatchings she had watched, tragedy struck and she was injured by one of the hatchings. The young dragon mauled her right arm so badly that it had to be amputated, and her chest was scarred too badly to avoid horrific scars. As a result of her disability, she was no longer permitted to stand as a candidate. Without her arm, there was not even a good chance of her being able to apprentice to a craft, or at the least she would never be able to advance very far. She kept up her adolescent work in the lower caverns, acting as a drudge whose primarily involve cleaning and fostering children. A few turns ago, she had a son of her own, conceived during the mating flight of Bronze Abrath and Gold Moth. Because of the injuries to her chest, she had difficulty breastfeeding young Drayneran, and fostered him early to another woman with sufficient milk. Now that she is a mother, she takes a hand in the fostering of weyrbrats and keeping an eye on the youngsters. Shortly after her son was born, his father arranged for her to receive a firelizard egg as a kindness. When the green hatched, she fed her and named her Drana.
Pet Name : Drana
Pet Species : Firelizard
Pet Color : Green
Pet Description : Drana is the color of moss and is about as long as her owner's remaining arm. She is relatively average in appearance, though she is a bit slender and has a slightly longer wingspan than her length might suggest. She is biddable for a green, though of course she is not very intelligent and cannot always be trusted. However, Nera's lifestyle is not one that requires her to send a lot of important messages, so this rarely matters. Emotionally, Drana shares a very close bond with Nera and can sometimes be a bit jealous and possessive of her.Last updated on 29-Nov-11.
