Physical Description : Odel stands about 5'4" tall. His dark black hair has a tendency to fall softly across his forehead, and Odel is constantly brushing it back with an unconscious and impatient gesture. His brown eyes (so dark they are nearly black) are very expressive, usually kind and warm.

Personality : Odel has an equal balance of seriousness and humor, and the man knows at what time to use what personality trait. Born to the Gelard trading family, Odel has enough strength to earn respect and enough charisma to sell a song to a Harper.

Life Story : The life of a trader is not easy, and while not many would choose it, those who are born into it can think of no other way they'd like to live. Odel is of this same philosophy: he has always been a trader and there is no other way of life for him.

One day, the Gelard Train was en-route to Thread's End Hold when they were startled by the sudden arrival of a young green dragon. After resisting the urge to scold the green's young rider for nearly frightening his drey beasts to death, Odel was surprised to hear that he had been Searched. The trader was reluctant to leave his wife and two young children behind, but the boy whose green had Searched Odel became nearly hysterical, pleading with Odel to accompany him to Thread's End Weyr. Odel finally relented, certain he wouldn't Impress. The hatching would be any day now, the greenrider reassured him, and Odel decided his train could easily make a stop at the Weyr to collect him following the Hatching. Odel only went along with the Search to humor the boy, because, after all, the trader knew he hadn't a Thread's chance in water of actually Impressing.

Surprisingly enough to Odel, he did Impress, as blue Ybalth chose him on the sands of Threads End Weyr. The event placed a whole set of new problems on Odel. A new name, a new occupation . . . and what was to become of his family?

The solution came when his new Weyrlingmaster traveled to Thread's End Hold, where O'gard's family was waiting. The Weyrlingmaster returned to the Weyr accompanied by O'gard's wife (Alarea) and O'gard's son and baby daughter (Odem and Reaeda).

"Where else would a wife be," Alarea stated calmly, "but with her husband?"

**And where else would a dragonrider be,** O'gard thought, **but with his dragon?**

Now that he's almost graduated, O'gard is happy to be able to be with his wife and children who are proud of him for the reputation he had managed to hew for himself.

Dragon's Personality : Ybalth is very even tempered, much like O'gard himself. Ybalth is surprisingly sensible for a dragon of his age, not prone to the same youthful exuberances as his clutchmates.
