Mother's Name : Eleya (deceased)

Physical Description : O'rin has dark brown hair just starting to show a distinguished greying at the temples. Short, thick, and curly, it is always on the verge of crawling out from beneath the edge of his helmet. His squarish face is a weathered tan and wizened and provides an interesting frame for his slate blue eyes. He's about 5'11" and of medium build, bulky but not fat.
Emotional Description : Despite a tragic incident about ten turns ago, O'rin is a very stable personality, and although he doesn't particularly realize it, he's something of a father figure to the younger riders in his wing. He's reserved and not easily angered, tending instead to bottle things up. When he finally lets it out, the display is short and violent but quickly dissipates. He's a good listener and offers sound advice if asked.
Life Story : O'rin was born into a farming family at a small hold on the Northern Continent. He had begun an apprenticeship with the Beastcraft Hall but was called back to his family when his only brother was killed when one of the heavy draftbeasts at the hold became frightened and in its thrashing, lost its footing and crushed the youth beneath it. At age 19 he was Searched by High Reaches Weyr and shortly thereafter Impressed bronze Dredeth.
The same turn that he Impressed, O'rin also took a weyrmate, Lusyra, a non-rider, who bore him twin sons, but she died giving birth to the boys, whom he fostered within the Weyr; he was active in their raising.
O'rin showed an aptitude for leadership and rose to Wingsecond after a number of turns and later to Wingleader, a position he held for some time. His was a stable wing with few losses.
When his sons had 14 turns, they stood on the sands at High Reaches, and O'rin was as proud as he could be when one boy Impressed a brown and the other a blue. He watched them for the next three turns as they went through their weyrling training and were ultimately assigned to his Wing, taking the places of two retiring riders. However, on the fourth Fall they flew with O'rin, one of the twins was severely Threadscored, and he and his dragon went between, never to re-emerge. The other twin, who shared a strong bond with his brother, as twins often do, went mad at the loss, and his emotional turmoil so disturbed his own dragon that the pair flew directly into the path of the leading edge of the Fall as O'rin watched, horrified.
The bronze rider was devastated. He gave up his Wingleader position and spent the next turn going from drunken binge to drunken binge, refusing to fly Thread at all. Finally, others were able to persuade him to return, at least as a wingrider. But the memories at High Reaches were too much for O'rin to bear, and he ultimately transferred to Thread's End to get away from his past. There, F'len, a wingleader at the time, talked him into taking the Wingsecond's position when another Wingsecond stepped down, and O'rin handled the duties and responsibilities well.
But F'len was later killed, leaving O'rin under a new Wingleader, an opinionated one with an abrasive personality. With Dredeth's calming support, he managed to hold his tongue, focusing on protecting the green- and blueriders in his wing from their Wingleader's callous barbs. But he knew it was only a matter of time until he'd have his fill of the verbal acid and would say something to the man's face that he would likely regret.
What happened when he did was a surprise to both of them.
Dragon's Name : Dredeth
Dragon's Colour : Bronze
Dragon's Age : 28
Sire and Dam : Transfer (High Reaches Weyr)
Age of Rider at Impression : 19
Disposition of Dragon : Dredeth tends to mirror his rider's moods, calm when O'rin is calm, skittish when O'rin is disturbed. Like O'rin, he can have a calming effect on younger dragons in the Wing. He's exceptionally long on patience, and he and his rider are the consummate professional dragon/rider pair.Last updated on 30-Aug-11.
