| TRADER'S CHILD QUIRA |
![]()
Persona : Quira
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 14
Gender : Female
Rank/Craft : Trader's child
Residence : Sonnette's Dawn Hold
Physical Description : Quira's sun-tanned face leaves people squinting, trying to peer through the obscuring features to the beauty that lies beneath. Scars slant across prominent cheekbones and squared jaw, narrowly missing dark, wide-open eyes. Those eyes, large enough to nearly spoil an otherwise handsome face, have become her most alluring feature since she was marked. Appearing at casual glance to be a typical brownish black, her irises hold subtle blue undertones to captivate the close observer.
Thick waves of dusty black hair brush apologetically against curves that betray her gender despite broad shoulders and well-muscled limbs. Though she is short for her age, the early-developed figure and steady bearing keep her from being taken for a child.
Personality : Quira's intelligence runs to slow, deep insights rather than lightning flashes of brilliance. She takes in information quick enough- she just doesn t really trust it until she s had some time to mull it over. Careful observation is what she lives by.
Cooking, weaving, and other womanly pursuits hold little interest for her. She is fascinated by wheels, tools, anything with parts, especially moving parts. Often certain that she understands how to fix something, even improve its design, she has been thwarted by a lack of deftness in fashioning with her hands what she understands so well in her mind. She also harbors a love for the language of trade- the rhythm and flow of marks and goods she is beginning to see ways in which those same numbers apply to other aspects of life, but on the occasion she has hide to scribble on, her clumsy fingers can barely manage legible numbers, much less a diagram.
A deep confusion about her place in society has created a barrier between herself and others. Often craving the company of people, yet hesitant to speak up and be noticed, she has taken to watching instead. Puzzling out how someone thinks has become a substitute for closeness, and by now she is an astute judge of character. Quira has learned to seek within herself for the answer to her loneliness, and this has given her a measure of self-assurance despite her confusion- while she still doesn t know how she fits with other people, she is ever so slowly beginning to understand who she is.
Life Story : Of Quosiron and Indira's four children, Quira is the only one to share much of her father's looks, interests, and ambitions. Unfortunately, she is also the only girl. Quosiron, surprisingly hidebound for a Trader, has little regard for women's duties - and less for women doing men s duties. Thus, rather than his cherished prodigy, she is merely slightly less disappointing than her half-wit little brother. Quira shares little common ground with the rest of her family, other than mutual love and respect.
Since early childhood, Quira has liked to be on-scene whenever actual trading is taking place. Recognizing her interests and aptitude, Keravel, the Reyam Train s leader, began to give her extra lessons in mathematics and the intricacies of market value. These came to an abrupt halt upon discovery by Quira's father but since then Keravel has had occasional bouts of blindness whenever he hasn't noticed the youngster not sneaking off into the woods without the train s trading records.
Quira recently acquired the scars on her face, limbs, and back during a close encounter with a wild feline.
