Physical Description : Rukern is lightly balding with gray curly hair, and deep blue eyes. He has a strong chin with a dimple in it, rather full lips, and a large nose. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall, with rounded shoulders that give him the impression of stooping over. He has a lean frame and an automatic frown that he struggles to keep off his face when he is concentrating.

Personality : Rukern has a pleasant demeanor and is very garrulous when he drinks. He favors wine but enjoys a good ale as well. Rukern is a stickler for details. His frown sometimes puts people off, but he has learned to compensate for his natural frown by smiling frequently when he is talking with others. His favorite instrument is the guitar. He loves to teach and has a knack for finding quick and easy ways to help his students remember his lessons.

Life Story : Born in Igen, he is the youngest of eight children. His parents are no longer living, and his siblings are scattered about Pern. He moved to the Southern continent when his wife of 25 turns died. He has 4 grown children. He walked the tables to become a journeyman when he was 21 turns old and has traveled all over Pern since his wife Nomina died. He is ready to settle down now and is looking forward to teaching at a Weyr.

Pet Description : Quaver is a deep wet earth brown sort of shade. Almost a strong klah color. He is interested in music and Rukern is teaching him the difference between pitch and timbre. He is well loved by the students in the class and will eat from nearly everyone, but will only sit on Rukern's shoulder.
