Physical Description: Saris is not tall, almost standing 5' 1", with brown hair that is always sun-bleached to a lighter shade; eyes are dark brown. Most people consider her attractive.

Personality: Saris was born with a wandering foot and a desire to see what lies over the next ridge. By her own admission not given to serious contemplation, she does not long commit to any place or person. She is often incautious, and her temper has created problems for her in the past. She makes no apologies for herself.

Life Story: Born in the north, she apprenticed as a herder and earned the rank of Journeywoman at age 17. An excellent rider, she drifted from one hold to the next, most often serving as a race rider because of her size and expertise, and with time she developed a reputation as a rider to seek out. Never spending more than a turn or two in one place, she moved on when the situation became too routine--or sometimes too uncomfortable.

She was employed at Sonnette's Dawn for almost two turns, where her duties included, in addition to riding in runner races, the training of young runners and occasional instruction of apprentices in the skill of riding, both tasks at which she was surprisingly competent.

Following that, she worked at Thread's End Weyr with the runners and herdbeasts. While she was there, she and Master Donson--then master herder at Thread's End Weyr--began the development of a racing program and expanded the herder complex to include a racing oval and larger barn for the runners.

After a violent incident between herself and an unstable brown rider resulted in a dangerous ongoing threat to Tallin, Donson’s apprentice herder, the three of them left Thread's End Weyr to establish a holding of their own in the north. Then a recent tornado destroyed their northern hold, resulting in Donson’s being critically injured and their buildings and stock were destroyed. While Donson made a slow and painful recovery in the north, Saris, with Tallin accompanying, accepted a position at Green Ridge Hold in charge of the runners and herdbeasts. In the autumn of turn 36, Donson was pronounced fit to travel, and he joined them at Green Ridge Hold, although his recovery is still long from complete. She eagerly anticipates the spring of turn 38, when the Hold's first small crop of racers will be ready to race.

Her association with Master Donson and the responsibility of looking after Tallin have made her perhaps a bit more serious than any time before in her life although she remains personally reckless.

During month one of turn thirty seven, Lady Jianna persuaded her to seek the rank of Master Herder, which she achieved during that month, although Saris launched the endeavor with no small reluctance.
