Physical Description : Shaylyn is a tall woman with a rangy figure, auburn hair, large gray eyes, and freckles. Her round, girlish cheeks dimple when she smiles, and a long nose gives her oval face character. She's often suburned, especially on her ears and shoulders, even though she takes care to protect herself from Rukbat's rays.

Emotional Description : Easy going in some matters and strict in others, Shaylyn is a good Hall Master. She's a stickler for punctuality and expects all her apprentices and Journeymen to devote their full attention to their craft, but she's lenient when she feels there's good reason to be. She's a sympathetic listener and a loyal friend who will go out of her way to help others, but because of her tendency to go by-the-book on discipline, can still very effectively put the fear of Thread into her underlings.

Life Story :
Born at Ista Weyr while her parents were visiting a dragonrider friend, Shaylyn spent her childhood fostered at Fort Sea Hold where her father set up a minor fishing business one day's travel away. She was closer to her father and through him became well acquainted with the sea. In the process of spending time on the sea with her father, she learned the basics of seamanship, and apprenticed to the seacraft when she had fourteen Turns. When she was 20 Turns old and about to walk the tables, a storm swept her off the deck of her father's ship. Although an excellent swimmer, she hit her head on the way down, lost consciousness, and nearly drowned.

She was rescued by a male dolphin named Shamie. The experience gave her a healthy respect for the "shipfish" she had until then taken for granted, and she resolved to learn more about them. She applied for apprentice status at the newly formed Dolphin Hall in the North, and since most of the classes for seamanship and dolphincraft were the same, attained her rank as Journeywoman at age 22 with Shamie as a partner. He moved with her when she transferred to the Dolphin Hall in the South when it opened in M1 of Turn 34, just before her 31st birthingday.

At age 32, on M6 D1 of T35, Shaylyn attained Master rank and became the administrative head of the Sonnette's Dawn Dolphin Hall on the Southern Continent. Shamie has since passed on, but Shaylyn is partnered now with Spot, the 13-Turn old son of her first partner.

Emotional Description of Dolphin:: Spot is a thirteen-turn silver-grey dolphin runt, half a tail shorter than his Cathay pod mates even though he is fully grown. He speaks clearly and well, which Shaylyn appreciates, and sometimes corrects the pronounciation of his podmates. He is always ready to assist his partner with mapping and geographical duties, and loves to explore when given the chance. And of course, being a dolphin, he loves to play games! Some of his favorite games are to 'play' with the dragons that come to swim in the Hall's waters and to chase the boats that arrive at the docks.
