GREEN WEYRLING SH'WIN

Persona : Sh'win
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 16
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Green weyrling
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr

Physical Description : Sh'win is a dashing young man with dark brown hair that he wears an inch or two long and deliberately mussed. He has yet to attain his full growth and finish filling out, but there are clear indications that he has a relatively slender build with slim muscles that are nonetheless obvious. Most of his clothing is muted in hue, and he is particularly partial to olive greens and earthy browns, in direct contrast to most of the clothing worn on Pern. However, he has a weakness for flashy jewelry. His eyes are blue, but often seem gray. He has a quiet voice that is relatively high-pitched, leading some to believe that it has not yet broken.

Personality : Sh'win is a confident teenager who is somewhat lacking in social skills but has an unusual sense of self-possession, as he knows who and what he is and is not frightened by it. He is relatively competent although he has an unusual reliance on his family, for a weyrbred boy. His personality has a bit of the trickster about it, and he has been known to play pranks to revenge himself on those who target himself or his friends for bullying. Since his arrival at Ierne Island Weyr, he has made few friends, for he is not a very outgoing youth.

Life Story : Sh'win, born Shallarwin, is the son of bluerider D'win and greenrider Shalla. He was born and raised at Ista Weyr, his father an oldtimer who was very young when the dragons came forward, and his mother having Impressed in the fifteenth turn of the current pass. He was fostered with one of Ista's ubiquitous lower caverns workers, along with four of his half-brothers, but his father took an unusual interest in him, for a dragonrider, involving himself in Sh'win's childhood, playing with him and spending frequent restdays with the boy and his weyrmate of nearly twenty turns, greenrider B'lil. Sh'win's foster mother is sterile, a failed candidate from Ista Hold.

Sh'win was one of the few dragonrider's sons acknowledged by his father, and the time he spent interacting with B'lil and D'win necessarily took away some of the time he would normally have spent with his agemates, and the attention he was shown led to some minor incidents of jealousy in his youth, and he underwent some bullying. Small of stature and somewhat pacifist by nature, he evolved a trickster mentality as a defensive mechanism, playing pranks -- some of which backfired spectacularly, like the mess with the glows that had left him cleaning latrines for sevendays -- on those few foolish enough to lash out with more than words, as well as those few brave enough to stand in as his friends.

Three turns ago, as Ierne Island Weyr was being established, D'win took the opportunity to transfer out of a complacent lifestyle (his adaptiveness and love of change being one of the traits that keeps him sane despite the time differential) and his weyrmate indulged his adventuresome streak. Shalla's transfer was somewhat less voluntary; her shamelessly amorous ways had managed to offend a junior weyrwoman. None of that would have mattered, but his foster mother was selected to help out in the lower caverns, and Shallarwin wanted to remain with his family, despite the autonomy his age might have otherwise afforded and the tradition that viewed the Weyr as his family. Once he attained his fifteenth year, he was Searched.

Dragon's Name : Trath
Dragon's Colour : Green
Dragon's Age : Under 1 turn
Sire/Dam : Bronze Ofiserth and Gold Sinevath
Rider's Age at Impression : 15

Physical Dragon : Trath has a relatively dark hide and though she has not yet attained her full growth, it seems likely she will grow to be long and limber. She flies with a fearless sort of abandon.

Dragon's Personality:Trath is as affectionate and friendly as any green, but there is an underlying competence to her demeanor that is more uncommon. She is very self-confident, almost to the point of arrogance, and Sh'win has his hands full keeping her safe and under control without clipping her wings and inhibiting her.
