| WINGLEADER S'YNOL |
![]()
Persona : S'ynol
Writing Status : NPC/Owned
Age : 34
Rank/Craft : Wingleader IIW/CFMW, Bronzerider
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr
Physical Description : The 6' 2" bronzerider is fit and trim, his lean frame hiding a well of strength. He keeps his dark brown hair cut short as is the custom of most dragonriders, allowing it to part naturally on the side. Brooding eyes the color of unsweetened klah cynically regard the world, taking in everything about him while giving away little. A long Thread scar runs the length of his back normally covered by tunic though he truly makes no effort to hide the scar, a tribute to a mistake as a youth that nearly cost him his life and that of his dragon.
Personality : S'ynol firmly believes in the discipline of the Weyr and the Wing. He's tough but fair, and it takes something exceptional to shake him from following the rules, learning as he did while a weyrling the importance of obeying those same rules. He has been a dragonrider now for more Turns than not, and it shows in his mannerism and habits. A Wingleader for seven Turns and at Ierne Island Weyr since it's founding in the 35th Turn of the Present Pass, the bronzerider has experience both the joys of being a rider and the sorrows. No matter how unpleasant or painful a duty, he won't shirk any duty. He's disciplined close friends who ignored the rules for no valid reason and held the cup steady as a Wingrider drank the mercy draught.
S'ynol is a man whose passions burn deep but are kept banked like the coals of a fire to last through the night. As a young, brand new addition to the fighting wings at Ista Weyr, he fell deeply in love with a greenrider and was devastated by her loss during Threadfall. Even though he encounters the occasional bedmate or greenrider from a mating flight won, he has been without a weyrmate since her loss. Well enough liked by those he serves with, his true friends and close companions are still few and far between and count themselves honored to be named as such by him. His sometimes gruff behavior hides a kind heart so much so that when he finds someone in pain -- especially those linked to his wing or those he cares for -- his considerate and thoughtful behavior can surprise even those that thought they knew him best.
If one of his current or former Wingriders was asked to describe S'ynol, one phrase they would be sure to use is a "strong sense of duty". He takes thread, drills and related duties seriously, and while he's not the most strict Wingleader on Pern, he is far from laid back. Wing meetings are typically held in his weyr at nooning the day after Fall, and while he typically doesn't provide drinks or food, he doesn't mind if people bring these items with them. In his mind, as long as a wingrider is paying attention, being serious when they should and does their duty, then they won't have any problem with him. If they don't or if they get hurt or cause another to get hurt especially due to showing off, then they'll get his attention in a way they won't really care for.
Life Story : Born and raised at Ista Weyr, S'ynol was a typical weyrchild. At 14 Turns, he stood on the Hatching Ground Sands and Impressed Bronze Pnerith that first time. Looking into those many faceted eyes, the young boy felt that missing piece of himself lock into place. Keeping mostly his own counsel even as a weyrling, S'ynol still made several close friends during those Turns, even falling in love with a greenrider whose green mating flight his bronze won. When she /betweened/ forever during a particularly brutal Threadfall, he was devastated and sought solace in his duties as a dragonrider. His reluctance at finding another weyrmate changed over the years to something more habitual than deliberate, though it has never hindered his bronze in any mating flight.
At 21 Turns, he was promoted to Wingsecond and, six Turns later, was promoted once more to Wingleader. He ran a tough wing, demanding high marks from his riders, but it was a Wing others still sought to enter. When the new Weyr on Ierne Island was founded and the call for experienced Wingleaders sounded, S'ynol volunteered, his interest peaked by the challenge of helping to forge a prosperous Weyr from the untamed island.
Recently, he encountered a young woman in her early twenties by the name of Anavine who aided one of his Wingriders to suicide after a bad injury during Threadfall to his dragon. She had tried to go with the lifemates /between/ but had fallen from the brown to the ground below. Grateful for the assistance she had given his Wingrider but puzzled at what could have driven her to seek the same end, he checked on her daily until she woke from her fall and eventually told him enough of her story to raise his protective instincts, especially in the face of Masterhealer Alysian.
Dragon's Name : Pnerith
Dragon's Colour : Bronze
Dragon's Age : 20
Sire and Dam : Transfer
Age of Rider at Impression : 14
Dragon's Description : Pnerith is a large bronze, sleek and muscular. His color is that of a dark bronze, almost a burnished gold. One long Thread scar decorates his right shoulder just behind where his rider would sit. But it, and the other lesser scorings, only serve to give him a rugged appearance while reminding those Holders that meet him the potential price he and his rider may have to pay each time they take to the skies to fight Thread.
Dragon's Personality : The old saying "Like Rider, Like Dragon" is proven hundredfold with this pairing. Pnerith has a calmer, more patient view of things than the average dragon, though not to imply a longer memory. He simply has lost the impetuous of youth and gained the wisdom of age from his rider as himself. The more deliberate, planned actions have served him well in mating flights as in Threadfall.Last updated on 04-Jan-04
