WEYRLINGMASTER V'LERAN

Persona : V'leran
Writing Status : NPC/Owned
Age : 42
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Weyrlingmaster, Brownrider
Residence : Ierne Island Weyr

Physical Description : Lithe, light and fit, V'leran is not a large man. Standing only 5'8" he is sometimes misktaken for an adolescent, even at his age, although more from behind these days. His skin tone is a warm golden color which takes easily to tanning, so his skin isn't as wrinkled as other, more fair-skinned people. He does have wrinkles at the corners of his eyes from squinting and laughing and more wrinkles on his forehead from worrying, but overall, he doesn't really look his age. V'leran keeps his curly dark brown hair cropped short. He has warm brown eyes and a pleasant smile. His chest has a dusting of scars from the time he ran into a clump of hot ash that he didn't notice. He also has a tattoo of a large brown dragon on his back.

Personality : V'leran is a complex person, making it a bit difficult to get to know him really well. Most people think he is a nice guy, responsible and decent. And he is. But V'leran also has a temper, a family trait, and can be meaner than a poisonous tunnel snake if he thinks somebody has slighted or insulted him. He also has a bit of "short man's syndrome" in that he has a huge "if you can do it, I can" attitude. V'leran never quits, never backs down and never admits defeat. He's that stubborn and will fight until he's won or he's been knocked out.

Life Story : Born Vandaleran at Keroon Hold, his earliest memory was that of sitting on a runner's back, riding with his father. >From the time he was a small child, Vandaleran was trained to ride runners. Then, when he was a little older, he was trained to ride runners in races as a lightweight rider. His family life was stable but highly competitive. The races were everything and Vandaleran not only had to compete with his brothers for rides, but also riders from other places, as well as other native Keroonians. It seemed as if he was always fighting. His father encouraged it, saying it would "make men of them." His mother accepted it and provided constant love and support. She is where he gets his sense of humor and the ability to nurture. Even though it was rough at times, Vandaleran loved his life and wouldn't have traded it to this day. The family was in Igen for some races on the fateful day that Vandaleran got Searched. His father, usually good to avoid any area where there was a Search going on, had, for once, neglected to check. So Vandaleran was Searched, thus ending his career as a professional runner racer. For that clutch yielded up Brown Megarth, who chose Vandaleran for his own, making him V'leran.

For 26 Turns, V'leran lived, worked and loved at Igen Weyr, the last 12 of them as a Wingsecond. He has three children by three different women, a fellow rider and two Lower Cavern women. The children, two boys and a girl are his pride and joy. Even Megarth spoils them horribly and knows their names since they are in V'leran's thoughts so much. The oldest boy, Geran, now G'ran, is 20 Turns and has been in a fighting wing for two Turns. The middle child, Seleste, at 14, has just been accepted as an apprentice to the Beastcraft. All she lives for is runners. She lives, breathes and dreams runners. V'leran has arranged for her to begin her apprenticeship at Green Ridge Hold. That way he would have one of his children close to him, and she would have him near if she needed him. The younger boy, Danion, at eleven Turns, has already been sent to the Harper Hall at their request. His artistic ability was noticed when he was quite young by the Weyr Harper and the Hall was informed. Danion says he would not mind being a dragonrider, but art is his passion.

V'leran brags about his children to anyone who will listen and has protraits of them hanging in his weyr. He never thought to leave Igen Weyr until one day he got an unexpected message from Tr'dav, Weyrleader at Ierne Island Weyr and a fellow Igenite. The message informed him that a Weyrlingmaster position was open at the new Weyr and would he be interested in filling the position? There was a clutch on the Sands even now. V'leran was flabbergasted at the request. He was further astonished when he found out that Tr'dav had already gotten references from V'leran's Weyrleaders and his Wingleader. But V'leran didn't really wish to go. In the end, it was Megarth and a visit to Ierne Island that convinced V'leran to accept the position of Weyrlingmaster.

Dragon's Name : Megarth
Dragon's Colour : Brown
Dragon's Age : 26
Sire/Dam : Transfer
Rider's Age at Impression : 16

Physical Dragon : Megarth is a large brown, wide, muscular and built like a brick outhouse. His best characteristics are his strength and stamina. Megarth is a powerhouse of a Threadfighter, but not much in speed or maneuverability.

Dragon's Personality:Megarth is a little more serious than his rider. He doesn't always understand V'leran's quirky humor but he is 100 percent supportive of him anyway. He is solid and responsible with an average memory. He loves children and animals of all kinds. In fact, he received his first injury, not from Threadscore, but from a wild feline that he was interested in getting to know better when he was a weyrling. The feline did not feel the same and slashed him across the nose. It is barely noticeable now, but the adventure made him a wiser and more cautious dragon.
