WATCHRIDER Z'RAY

Persona : Z'ray
Writing Status : PC/Active
Age : 26
Gender : Male
Rank/Craft : Watchrider; Journeyman Harper
Residence : SDH

Physical Description : Z'ray is of average height and a little on the thin side of having an average build, with curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. The bronzerider is nearly always smiling, giving his face a very boyish, but not at all unattractive, appearance. His voice is rich and pleasant sounding, giving him a sort of quiet dignity completely at odds with his eager appearance.

Personality : Z'ray has a very positive outlook on life, despite being crippled early on in his threadfighting career. A Harper prior to the day he became Kamarath's chosen, Z'ray has the intelligence that often accompanies one of his former craft. He is fiercely loyal and exceedingly popular. Z'ray lacks the ambition and arrogance generally associated with men partnered with bronzes, a fact which surfaced often during his weyrling training with his disinterest in learning the duties of wingleader and wingsecond. Simply put, Z'ray seemed to want to avoid the responsibilities of leadership, and many wonder why a bronze, of all colors, chose him in the first place. The young dragonrider’s weyrlingmaster was relieved when Z'ray finally started showing an interest in leadership roles towards the end of his training.

Life Story : Ziraython was quite happy in his position of Journeyman Harper, in charge of teaching the younglings at a minor holding beholden to Fort. He excelled in his Craft, and many thought he had a chance at achieving the rank of Master much earlier than most. The dilemma over whether he would welcome such a change was solved abruptly the day a blue dragon on Search decided the Journeyman should stand for the clutch currently hardening on Fort Weyr's sands. Ziraython, a Harper ingrained with respect for the Weyr, could hardly refuse such an honor and before long he found himself whisked away from everything known and comfortable.

Though the young man was considerably older than most of the exuberant youngsters who could now call themselves candidates, he managed to fit in quite well. Always one to welcome learning new information, Ziraython found the Candidate classes stimulating and enjoyable. Once Hatching finally occurred, the second bronze to crack his shell made a beeline for the Journeyman Harper and Impression was made.

Becoming a weyrling was not all fun and games, but despite the fact that Z'ray hadn't done anything that could actually be termed manual labor in his entire life, he adjusted quite well.

As Z'ray was beginning to gain confidence in his threadfighting abilities, during a particularly windy Fall a large clump of thread was blown directly into Kamarath's path. By the time the pair was able to /between/, the deadly silver thread had eaten through muscles and tendons in the bronzerider's left thigh, rendering him unable to sit a-dragonback for the extended period of time necessary to fight Thread.

Wanting to get away from all who knew him as a fully functional dragonrider, Z'ray decided to accept a watchriding position at Thread's End Hold. As he was preparing to transfer, his Kamarath was contacted by blue Logoeth, whose rider was the current watchrider at Sonnette's Dawn Hold. Logoeth stated that his rider wished to transfer to Thread's End Hold, and wondered whether Kamarath's rider would accept a position at Sonnette's Dawn Hold. Although Logoeth did not give a specific reason, he stated it was important to his rider. One place was as good as the other to Z'ray, so arrangements were made and he soon found himself the new watchrider at Sonnette's Dawn Hold.

Dragon's Name : Kamarath
Dragon's Colour : Bronze
Dragon's Age : 2
Sire/Dam : Transfer
Rider's Age at Impression : 24

Physical Dragon : Kamarath is a smaller than average bronze with a darker than average hide. A large threadscore decorates the dragon's left flank, a momento from the thread that crippled his rider.

Dragon's Personality:Kamarath is as gossipy as a green, though he swears up and down the stories he tells are nothing but the truth. He is well-liked and oft-admired by greens and golds alike, though the bronze tends to swing more toward the latter variety of females. The bronze will often say, good naturedly, the reason he avoids many gold flights is because he hasn't a Thread's chance in water of winning, due to his small size, though many speculate it is his rider who holds him back from participating. At any rate, the fact doesn't seem to bother the good-natured bronze any.
