A note on seasons: Seasons on the southern continent of Pern are similar to those in the southern hemisphere on Earth:

The climate at Ierne Island Weyr/Green Ridge Hold is temperate (think Pennsylvania). Summer is warm with cool nights and is the wettest of seasons, with Spring close behind. Relatively dry Autumns are followed by wetter Winters, which are cold with low temperatures often well below freezing. Lying as it does in the subtropics (think north Florida), Sonnette's Dawn Hold has less, though some, variety in seasons. Because Thread's End Weyr and the other Holds and Halls in the nearby area are in the tropics, there is very little variation in weather with the seasons, except for a bit more rain in the Autumn and Winter month and the possibility of hurricanes, though they are not a common occurrence.
